WorkSafe, Mahi Haumaru Aotearoa, was set up in 2013 to be the primary regulator for workplace health and safety. Its main purpose is to promote and contribute to a balanced framework for securing the health and safety of workers and workplaces, as well as the safe supply and use of electricity and gas.
As a key member of the Corporate team, the Chief People Officer will play a pivotal role in shaping and aligning our people strategy with our business objectives. Reporting directly to the Deputy Chief Executive – Corporate, you will lead the People & Culture team, which focuses on key areas such as employee engagement, workplace culture, health & safety, talent management and compliance. In this role, you will guide the design, delivery and deployment of people-related frameworks, strategies and systems as enablers across WorkSafe, fostering an environment that supports effective people management and drives high performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Staying informed on evolving employment laws, health, safety, and environmental regulations, ensuring the business remains fully compliant.
- Leading the development and execution of HR strategies centred on employee engagement, culture, training, retention, and alignment with business objectives (including attracting and retaining talent while fostering growth and engagement).
- Oversee remuneration and benefits, implementing innovative and meaningful reward and recognition programmes that inspire and engage employees.
- Provide expert advice on company policies, people practices, and employment law, ensuring consistent and compliant HR practices across the organisation.
- Analyse and deliver insightful reports to management, covering key metrics such as leave, turnover, and costs, to drive informed decision-making.
- Manage and oversee the payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.
