Te Poutāhū | Curriculum Centre

Te Poutāhū leads the national curricula for Aotearoa New Zealand as well as associated systems and processes of assessment and aromatawai. Te Poutāhū brings Aotearoa’s curriculum to life and has delivered the most significant investment in changes to curriculum and assessment in the last 20 years. It designs, develops, and provides curriculum services that reflects the identities, languages and cultures of all teachers, kaiako, leaders, ākonga, their whānau and our diverse communities. Te Poutāhū is a pou that stands at the front of our whare. Te Poutāhū supports Te Tāhuhu and is therefore one of the main supports for education in its entirety. Curriculum is part of our shaping and operational roles and is an enduring aspect of our education system as it sets the direction for what and how ākonga are taught.

To support Te Mahau in providing a more responsive, accessible and integrated local support function for early learning services and schools, Te Poutāhū must organise and redesign its core functions. Going forward Te Poutāhū will deliver:

  • A new Strategy & Integration unit that works across collectively across Te Poutāhū
  • A New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) & Te Whāriki unit (formerly named Curriculum, Pathways & Progress)
  • A Te Uepū Reo Māori unit that supports the provision of te reo Māori in education
  • A formal New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) Refresh and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (TMOA) Redesign unit
  • A further formalised NCEA Programme unit
  • A Secondary Tertiary unit that focuses on increasing achievement, retention and progression
  • An Office of the Hautū that provides administrative and advisory support to the Hautū | Te Poutāhū and Te Poutāhū
  • A Pou Ārahi – Māori that sits on the Te Poutāhū Leadership Team
