Specialist – Cultural Capability

  • Based at our Māngere campus.
  • Shape our culture and the capability of our kaimahi in this critical role.
  • A family-friendly workplace that supports your continued learning and education journey.

About us | Ko wai mātou
Ko ngā uara (our values) are woven throughout the actions we take to achieve great outcomes for our tauira (students) and kaimahi (employees):

  • Te Aroha: Having regard for one another and those for whom we are responsible and to whom we are accountable.
  • Te Whakapono: The basis of our beliefs and the confidence that what we are doing is right.
  • Ngā Ture: The knowledge that our actions are morally and ethically right and that we are acting in an honourable manner.
  • Kotahitanga: Unity amongst iwi and other ethnicities; standing as one.

About the role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
Our Kiriwhanake team are transforming the way we deliver people and culture strategy and services across Aotearoa which has created several exciting new roles in our Organisational Culture & Capability team including this one.  The Specialist – Cultural Capability is a rare opportunity to map, shape and advance the cultural capability of an organisation that is already leading the way in Aotearoa… we live and breathe Te Ao Māori, but there’s more work to be done.
You’ll enable the advancement and integrity of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori at TWoA through initiatives that foster and uphold Māori values and philosophies.  This will mean understanding our current state so you can build the roadmap to a culturally rich, vibrant place for kaimahi and tauira.
You won’t be doing it alone of course; you’ll have the support of a well-resourced team and the endorsement of our senior leaders. Free health and life insurance included as well as work-from-home options.
You’ll be inspired by seeing people and culture grow… see the lights go on!

Skills and experience | Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako
Your success in this role will hinge your track record of developing and delivering programmes that have truly shifted the dial on cultural competency.  Experience building relationships and cross-functional teams in a multicultural workplace would be ideal while written and spoken proficiency in Te Reo Māori will aid your purpose.  Most of all, you’re motivated and inspired to see people connect with Te Ao Māori, seeing the light go on when that connection occurs.
As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable. Strong understanding of Te Ao Māori and Te Reo Māori capability an advantage.
If we’ve outlined a role that’s captured your imagination and speaks to your experience and capability, we’d love to hear from you!
