Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is the largest state-funded school in Aotearoa, supporting more than 30,000 ākonga at any given time. It provides personalised, flexible learning programmes across early childhood, primary, and secondary education, including NCEA Levels 1–3, with a strong focus on young adult and adult ākonga. Its kaimahi are based across the country, with three-quarters working as kaiako.
 
The vision of Te Kura is to empower ākonga to achieve their educational and personal goals, enabling them to become engaged, confident members of their whānau and communities. 

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
Te Kura is seeking a Communications Advisor to support clear, effective, and engaging communication with internal and external stakeholders. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this role plays a key part in implementing Te Kura’s communication strategy, ensuring messaging aligns with its values and kaupapa.
 
The Communications Advisor will develop high-quality content, strengthen engagement with Māori and Pacific whānau, and enhance relationships across Te Kura. They will also help manage communication risk, provide strategic advice to senior leaders, and contribute to initiatives that foster a sense of belonging for ākonga, whānau, and kaimahi. This role requires a proactive and adaptable communicator who can engage diverse communities across multiple platforms.
 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in communication, including digital and social media
  • Experience in strategy implementation and feedback monitoring
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building abilities
  • Proficiency in content management systems and digital tools
  • A willingness to learn and develop an understanding of Te Reo Māori or a Pacific language
