Connecting Māori & Industry to spectrum opportunities

Ko wai mātou | About us
For generations, Māori have championed their rights to the radio spectrum, achieving significant milestones that ensured the promotion and protection of Te Reo Māori. On the strength of this deep-rooted legacy that reaffirmed pre-existing rights, in 2022, the Crown recognised Māori interest in mobile spectrum – this led to the formation of Tū Ātea.

Overseen by a Board of Directors, Tū Ātea represents a critical intersection of technology, culture and social investment. With a mission to enrich the lives of Māori through technology, Tū Ātea is  building a robust, innovative, and profitable business, providing substantial benefits to the social and economic well-being of all New Zealanders. Their mission is to increase Māori participation in spectrum-related industries and the technology economy.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Communications Manager will be key in boosting the visibility and reputation of Tū Ātea Ltd and its subsidiaries across a range of stakeholders – including Māori communities, the political sphere, industry, and the public. As Tū Ātea grows, this role is central to developing and executing a marketing and communications strategy, which will cover marketing, branding, and communications across different channels.

The Communications Manager will need to simplify and communicate complex technical concepts to a wide range of people. It requires building strong relationships with key stakeholders, especially within Māori communities and the industry, while positioning Tū Ātea as a credible and influential player in the sector. It will also support the Workforce and Innovation programmes to help attract more Māori into the telecommunications sector, strengthening Tū Ātea’s ties with its Māori stakeholders.
