Secretary for Business, Innovation and Employment and Chief Executive
Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission is seeking an influential leader to serve as the Secretary for Business, Innovation and Employment and Chief Executive (the Secretary), Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
As the Government’s lead microeconomic agency, MBIE drives and manages many of the underlying systems that contribute to New Zealand’s economic growth. MBIE does this through its international connectivity, trade and investment, improved educational achievement and skills development, regulatory levers, support for policies that build effective infrastructure, and promotion of innovation, science and technology.
The Secretary for MBIE is expected to demonstrate significant commercial insight and knowledge that they can bring to bear to proactively advise on the policy and operational settings, tools and interventions that the Government should implement to drive economic growth. They should be able to demonstrate experience in influencing results across complex systems and leading and managing the delivery of multiple functions through leadership structures.
To succeed in this role, you will need strong organisational leadership and delivery skills. This includes the courage to lead organisational change and a sound understanding of when complex time and issues management needs delegation or personal attention.
The Secretary for MBIE is expected to build trust and confidence with a wide range of stakeholders, including government ministers, public service leaders and interested parties from a wide range of sectors. Building effective relationships and upholding the principles of political neutrality and stewardship are essential aspects of this position.
