The Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) promotes and protects the rights of health and disability service consumers, and facilitates the fair and efficient resolution of complaints relating to those rights.
The Aged Care Commissioner is appointed as a Deputy Commissioner within HDC and holds a dual role: advocating for, and influencing quality improvement in health and disability services for older people, and being a statutory decision maker on complaints and supporting complaints-resolution processes. The Aged Care Commissioner is also a member of the ELT within HDC, contributing to the strategic and operational management of the Office.
You will be an experienced senior leader and an exceptional people leader, who has experience working in areas of older people’s health. You must have the intellectual ability and sound judgement to make complex, quasi-judicial decisions effectively, along with a strong focus on quality standards and service improvement. You will have an understanding of te ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how to incorporate Māori cultural views. You will also enjoy developing relationships with key sector and Government stakeholders, including Ministers. As a sector advocate, you will be comfortable with public speaking and media.
