Acting General Manager Communications and Engagement

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced communications and engagement general manager for an hourly rate contract until approximately February 2026.

You’ll be leading a large team delivering communications, engagement and marketing services across an organisation undergoing transformation. Your role will be to lead the team through the transition phase while shaping a future-focused communications and engagement function.

You’ll be a member of the senior leadership team and work closely with the CEO. 

About You

  • You are an experienced communications general manager with: 
  • 10+ years experience leading communications and engagement teams of 20 or more
  • Proven expertise in managing teams through change
  • Extensive experience developing and delivering communications strategies 
  • Expertise in managing crisis communications and media relations
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including with iwi/Māori.
  • Experience working in the NZ public sector.

Contract Details
Duration: starting asap until February 2026
Location: Wellington or Hutt Valley
