Finance Business Partner

Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi delivers programmes from certificate to doctorate level with mātauranga Māori and tīkanga at the core of its teaching and learning, delivery, academic practice, and student experience. With a growing national and international student base of 6,000, the institution presents a unique and dynamic workplace.
The primary responsibility of this position is to support assigned Heads of School and National Programme Managers by providing comprehensive financial and business partnering assistance. This includes contributing to business planning, aligning financial activity with school and organisational objectives, monitoring performance, and supporting effective operational decision making. The role also contributes to broader organisational improvement through reporting on key metrics, supporting project delivery, procurement processes, and assisting in the ongoing development of contract and financial management systems.
This position plays an important part in enabling sustainable growth, strong stewardship of resources, and improved organisational outcomes across the institution.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, and financial analysis.
- The ability to understand the wider strategic context with a proactive and inquisitive approach.
- Previous experience in a Business Partner or equivalent role.
- Relevant qualifications in finance, business, or a related discipline.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications and adaptability to new technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A strong focus on continuous improvement, initiative and collaboration.
- An understanding of, or commitment to working within a kaupapa Māori and Wānanga environment will be highly valued.
Candidates holding Chartered Accountant (CA) status, a relevant master’s degree, or experience within the education sector will be highly regarded.
