Our client is a complex organisation operating nationwide with a large capital investment portfolio and extensive leasing arrangements. We now seek a capable up-and-coming financial accountant or external auditor, with strong analytical skills and solid technical skills to join the capital finance team.
About the role
Your role is to ensure quality financial records and registers are maintained, accurate reconciliations are completed and assist in the preparation of month-end and year end reporting in line with accounting standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- To analyse and classify transactions in line with relevant accounting standards (including operating vs finance leases).
- Maintain accurate registers.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve variances.
- Help prepare technical accounting papers and support statutory disclosures.
- Ensure external reporting requirements are met.
- Support timely contractual payment approvals.
- Work with external auditors and respond to audit queries.
- Maintain strong financial controls.
- Identify process improvements and automation opportunities.
About you
To be successful, you will be a detail-oriented finance professional who enjoys working in a technical, compliance-focused environment and partnering with a wide range of stakeholders.
You will bring:
- A tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- At least 3 years’ experience in financial accounting or external audit, with reporting and reconciliations experience.
- Strong understanding of lease accounting and financial reporting standards (public-sector exposure highly regarded).
- Experience managing asset-related/lease related financial data.
- Confidence working with auditors and preparing technical documentation.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
Experience working in large, complex or public-sector organisations, along with an interest in continuous improvement and automation, will be highly advantageous.
