Chief Executive
- Influential leadership role in a critical sector
- Lead across policy, regulation and sector collaboration
- Wellington preferred
This is more than a Chief Executive role. It’s an opportunity to help shape a well-functioning, resilient national air network that supports New Zealand’s connectivity, prosperity and economic growth.
NZ Airports represents the full breadth of New Zealand’s airport network, from major international gateways to small regional aerodromes. It operates in a complex high level stakeholder environment with a policy agenda that intersects with government, regulators, airlines, communities and consumers.
The environment is dynamic and challenging. Airports are navigating infrastructure constraints, sustainability commitments, evolving airline dynamics and a multi-faceted regulatory system. At the same time, their role in enabling economic growth and regional connection has never been more important.
NZ Airports has built strong momentum as a trusted, credible and influential voice. Now, it’s time for the next phase of leadership.
What you’ll do
You’ll step into a role that is both strategic, yet hands-on, leading both the direction and delivery of NZ Airports’ work.
You will:
- Shape the conversation with Ministers, regulators and decision-makers on high-profile policy and regulatory issues
- Bring the sector together to tackle system-wide challenges
- Champion members’ interests, ensuring the diversity of the network is understood and represented
- Identify emerging issues and position the sector to respond with evidence and credibility
- Provide strategic clarity while building a modern, high-performing organisation
- Be the voice of the sector, credible, balanced and effective across media, select committees and public forums
What you’ll bring
You’re an experienced and credible leader who thrives in complex environments. You know how to navigate policy, build alignment and deliver on commitments.
You’ll bring:
- A track record of working at senior levels with government, Ministers and regulators
- The ability to engage deeply with policy and regulatory issues and translate complexity into clearly communicated positions
- Exceptional relationship leadership, with the credibility to work with diverse and sometimes competing stakeholders
- Strong political awareness and judgement, combined with independence and diplomacy
- Experience working with boards and leading organisations with discipline and focus
- A leadership style that is engaging, resilient and grounded in delivery
A background in aviation or infrastructure is helpful, but not essential.
Why this role
This is a rare opportunity to lead at the centre of a system that matters.
From regional connectivity to international gateways, from infrastructure investment to decarbonisation, the decisions shaped in this role will have lasting impact around New Zealand.
If you’re motivated by purpose, complexity and influence and ready to lead with credibility at the highest levels, we’d love to hear from you.
