Systems Accountant

  • Lead finance systems enhancements and continuous improvement.
  • Improve reporting, controls, and operational efficiency.
  • Become part of a trusted team with strong relationships across the organisation.

A fantastic opportunity for a Systems Accountant who enjoys combining finance with technology, data, and process improvement.

The Commerce Commission plays a role in ensuring New Zealand’s markets are competitive, consumers and businesses are informed and empowered, and their interests protected, and sectors with little or no competition are appropriately regulated.

They are now seeking a Systems Accountant to join their close-knit finance team.  This role sits at the heart of the finance function, ensuring financial systems deliver reliable information, streamlined processes, and actionable insights. Working across finance, technology, and operational teams, you will play a key role in enhancing system capability, improving reporting, and driving efficiencies through smarter use of technology.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning and enhancing finance systems to support business performance and decision-making.
  • Delivering system improvements, upgrades, and process optimisation initiatives.
  • Building meaningful financial reports and dashboards that provide valuable business insights.
  • Identifying opportunities to automate manual processes and improve user experience.
  • Maintaining strong system controls, data integrity, and governance practices.
  • Providing guidance and support to internal stakeholders on system functionality and best practice.

About you:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification, with CA, CPA, or equivalent professional membership
  • Proven experience working with enterprise finance systems in a Systems Accountant or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting processes, financial reporting, and data management.
  • Experience leading or contributing to systems enhancements, projects, or transformation initiatives.
  • Naturally analytical, with the ability to solve problems and improve processes.
  • A confident communicator who can build relationships across both technical and non-technical teams.

Experience with TechnologyOne, workflow automation, systems integration, or large and complex organisations will be highly regarded.

This opportunity offers the chance to influence how finance and technology work together, driving improvements that deliver real organisational value.
