About Blood Cancer NZ
Blood Cancer NZ is the national charity supporting New Zealanders affected by blood cancer. It provides support to patients and whānau, advocates for better access to medicines, treatment and care, and invests in research to further improve outcomes.
With plans to increase annual research investment, Blood Cancer NZ is seeking to strengthen its strategic approach and maximise the impact of future research investment funding.
About the Role
This is an opportunity to build on existing research impact to develop a forward-looking research roadmap that shapes future blood cancer research investment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the research portfolio to assess impact and lessons from past investment.
- Consult clinicians, researchers and institutions to inform research priorities and approach.
- Identify research strengths, gaps and opportunities to improve patient outcomes.
- Develop a funding strategy that sets clear priorities, funding mechanisms and criteria for investment.
- Develop a national blood cancer research roadmap and a practical implementation plan.
- Identify opportunities to co-fund research with other funders and partners.
- Strengthen research governance and strategic oversight.
Skills & Experience Required
- Significant experience as a research development leader.
- Experience in health, medical research or research funding.
- Strong strategic planning skills.
- Experience developing high-quality governance-level documentation.
- Credibility engaging with clinical and academic stakeholders.
- Understanding of the New Zealand research ecosystem.
This is a fixed term role for 20 hours per week for 12 months with the option to work full-time for 6 months. Blood Cancer NZ has offices in Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The role could be based in any of these locations.
