General Manager – Housing

Trust House (THL) is a community owned company based in Masterton. The company operates a range of hospitality businesses across Wairarapa, Pahiatua, and Flaxmere and they currently own and manage 400 social rental properties. Their operations are commercial yet aim to enhance the wellbeing of people in the region by providing homes to those in the community who need them most.
 
THL has embarked on a complete transformation of its housing portfolio. This is the most fundamental and transformational change in THL’s housing strategy in 25 years.   This long-term strategy will see the construction of 300 new houses and refurbishment of a further 120 houses in Masterton over a 5-year period. THL is 12 months into this 5-year transformation programme. In the past 18 months Trust House has geared up its internal capability to undertake its ambitious redevelopment programme and work is well underway. In addition, Trust House has commenced work with other key housing stakeholders to develop a place-based housing strategy for the Wairarapa.
 
THL is seeking an experienced leader who will have strategic oversight of their social housing portfolio, ensuring the wellbeing of current and future housing tenants by providing best practice services to tenants. Leading a small team, they will deliver highly effective tenant centric services, to achieve best outcomes for all. They will also work closely with partner organisations as a leading player in the development of the Wairarapa-wide Housing Strategy.
 
To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive experience operating at a senior leadership level and be an excellent people leader
  • Exceptional relationship skills and a proven ability to work with senior leaders of government agencies, iwi and social housing providers
  • A deep commitment to the wellbeing of tenants and the communities that THL serves
  • Experience gained working in residential, social housing management
  • Sound knowledge of building and property management regulation and health & safety
  • A good understanding of best practice residential tenancy and asset management.
