Chair and Board Members
- Three positions
- High performing energy sector business
- Strategic transition focus
- Whanganui region
Based in Whanganui, GasNet is a Council Controlled Trading Organisation, currently responsible for providing a range of network and metering services to energy retailers in the Whanganui-Manawatū and Hawke’s Bay regions, so that they can provide a safe and reliable supply of natural gas to consumers.
GasNet has consistently delivered value to its shareholder while maintaining a strong focus on energy security, network resilience and long-term sustainability. As the energy sector evolves, the company is actively exploring opportunities to diversify its activities and play a broader role in the region’s future energy system, including renewable and emerging energy technologies. With this in mind, we are seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced candidates to be members of the Board of GasNet Ltd. This Board comprises three members including the Chair.
Members of the Board are expected to possess, collectively, the following:
- Experience leading organisations through industry change, transformation or strategic transition
- Understanding of the energy and infrastructure sectors in Aotearoa New Zealand, including emerging energy technologies, energy resilience and the opportunities and challenges facing New Zealand’s changing energy landscape
- Strategic vision, commercial acumen and the ability to identify and evaluate future opportunities in energy, infrastructure and related sectors
- Strong corporate governance experience in a multi-stakeholder environment
- Regulatory experience including in relation to health and safety and risk management
- Experience in areas such as accountancy, law, risk management, commerce, and commercial property management
- Strong relationship management skills and the ability to develop strategic connections with stakeholders, including our iwi and hapū partners
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to reason objectively and convey ideas clearly and accurately
- A clear sense of public accountability and understanding of local government and the relationships between councils and council-owned organisations.
Ideally, Board members will be domiciled in or close to Whanganui or demonstrate a strong connection to Whanganui. Members are likely to attend around 10 meetings per year with the Chair expected to attend additional meetings.
If you are excited by the future of energy and can bring fresh thinking, commercial insight and strategic leadership, this is an opportunity to help shape the future of a successful publicly-owned infrastructure business. We are seeking directors who can guide GasNet through a period of change and opportunity, while maintaining strong performance, sound governance and a commitment to the communities it serves.
